It’s Thanksgiving!!! My favorite meal of the year!! There’s nothing about thanksgiving that is not completely dreamy, I mean COME ON there’s a table full of endless food surrounded by the people you love (and sometimes the people you have to love. . .we all know these family members even if we don’t admit it out loud) and then after you stuff your belly to maximum capability the little kids and grandparents usually ask for dessert, sugary gluten filled delicious heart attack dessert. I don’t know about you but there’s something about sitting around a fall colored table filled with laughter and love and lots of thanks that just really gets me all types of emotional.
A look into a Randall’s Thanksgiving:
-both grandpa’s sitting around drinking coffee and eyeballing the pies well before dinner
-grandma Randall (in her 80’s) sneaking every sweet dessert she can find in to her pocket, followed by one of the grandkids having to sneak the sweets away so she doesn’t get sick (she’s diabetic, so you see the problem here)
-a competition of who can talk the loudest usually begins during dinner
-grandma forgetting the turkey two years in a row…we now have a back up emergency ham just incase
-tofurkey, yes it’s a tofu turkey…shout out to all the vegans out there! aka half of my family
-my little brother and the boy cousins conveniently “fall asleep” during the dish washing portion and then magically wake up during dessert
-the following morning when the rest of the world gets up at 1am to go shopping for black Friday deals, my family usually sleeps in and makes a huge breakfast and then we all head to a few stores to find that there are in fact no deals left because at this point its 2 in the afternoon and nearly all the stores look as if they’ve been robbed. yes, this happens every year and we still managed to be shocked
Although holidays are filled with lots of love, there is sometimes a lot of heart break and sorrow during the this time. This will be the first year we won’t have both of my grandpas and my uncle Howard joining us at the table. Instead, all three men are going to be indulging in the best thanksgiving EVER up in heaven with the best host in the history of hosting…Jesus. I hope that this holiday season showers you with love, comfort and happiness. I have a lot of confidence and faith that my family members will still be with us tonight at the dinner table…not physically but spiritually and my hope is that you are comforted with the same feeling if you have lost love ones.
