Do you ever feel like the world is out to get you? No matter how many times people tell you to calm down and just look at the big picture. . .you freak out anyways? Yea, me too.
For me, that was this week. I was super dramatic about 95% of the things that happened (computer not working, class schedule getting messed up, loosing my debit card, and then sitting in 2 hours of traffic and missing a job interview!! Still a little bitter about the job interview thing). The entire time I just kept thinking about how “unlucky” I was and how everything was so “unfair.”
Well WAKE UP BREE! I was slapped in the face with reality, life has it’s ups and downs and no matter how tough a little trial might be, there is ALWAYS someone going through something much more difficult.
So here I was, feeling sorry for myself and the difficult few days I experienced when my professor had the entire class stand in a circle to say something that “gave them life this week” and something that “took away life this week,” as in a difficult situation. As we went around the room and listened to the positives and negatives of peoples lives, it hit me.
My current position in life is beautiful and abundantly blessed, I have had my share of trials and heart break but I’ve healed and this week was nothing compared to those times. My classmates were having harder days than me. . . two students cars stopped working, one was in an accident, another had a mom stuck out of the country for several months and the final one that really broke my heart was a sweet girls grandpa went to heaven just a few days before school started. WOW.
Traffic!? That was my hardship for the day? If you’re human, which I’m guessing you are, then you can relate with this. I’m challenging you (any myself) to get to know people around you and see, REALLY ASK with true intention of wanting to know, how someones day is going? Is your barista having a tough week? Does the person you share a cubicle with need prayer in a big decision they are facing? What ever you’re going through, don’t forget to ask people around you if they need prayer, support or even just a nice big bear hug.
Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Don’t let the little insignificant bumps in the road have the power to change your mood and mental state. YOU ARE STRONG AND BLESSED. Just remember. . . there is not a day that you have lived where God has not been with you, and there is not a place that you have stood where God hasn’t already stood. (that has been on repeat in my mind)
